St Cuthberts Mill Award
Society of Botanical Artists

The 'St Cuthberts Mill Award' at The Society of Botanical Artists Exhibition went to Sarah Wood SBA for her body of work. Pictured here is her piece 'Variegated Hostas'. Sarah Wood SBA is a Wirral-based artist specializing in watercolour.  She studied botanical art with the Society of Botanical Artists on their Distance Learning Diploma Course. She was made a full member of the Society in 2014.

Sarah exhibits at galleries on the Wirral; in London, at Westminster Central Hall and the Mall Galleries; and Frankfurt, at an exhibition space at Palmengarten.  She has written a number of magazine articles that have appeared in publications, including International Artist, Leisure Painter, and was cover artist for Paint magazine.

She has won many awards including the St Cuthbert’s Mill Award and the Margaret Granger Memorial Silver Bowl with the Society of Botanical Artists, the Schmincke Award with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the Maureen Hinchcliffe Award with Wirral Society of Arts and the Barbie Coates Trophy with Irby Artists’ Association. She was a finalist in the Caran d’Ache Competition at the Mall Galleries and a finalist in International Artist Magazine’s, Still Life and Florals Competition.

“I strive for representative and realistic images. I believe art should have the power to transform the commonplace into the exceptional. I look for beauty in the simplest subjects: foliage, grasses and raindrops.”
