The Next Generation
St Cuthberts Mill has recently
taken on five new apprentices! The apprenticeship is a PMO Level 2
qualification. PMO stands for Performing Manufacturing Operations. The
apprenticeships are all in association with Bridgwater College in Somerset.

Each of the apprentices are learning papermaking skills
from our expert team here at the mill. Nicola Dobson (pictured) is one of our
apprentices. Nicola has been learning a wide range of skills, and closely
following our Quality Control Manager and Paper Chemist. After talking to
Nicola she informed me of the types of procedures she has been learning. She
has been quality control testing, testing incoming pulps, arranging samples and
testing Zeta potentials. Zeta potential is testing system changes for optimum
chemical retension within paper.
